NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman says the county has recently seen an uptick in car/deer accidents. He is asking motorists to pay extra attention while driving this autumn.
“During the fall and winter months, deer are much more active. While drivers should always use caution, the increase in activity at this time increases your likelihood of hitting a deer while driving,” said Sheriff Freeman.
More than 15,000 motor vehicle collisions involving deer are reportedly annually across Indiana. The majority occur between October and December.
“Accidents involving deer can not only cause damage to vehicles and possible injuries to drivers and passengers, they can also be deadly,” said Freeman. “A little extra caution can save lives and avoid damage.”
