COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department’s (CPD) Intelligence-Led Policing Unit began an investigation in early August into a person dealing methamphetamine. Officers say the suspect, Roberto Jimenez Jr., 42, is a convicted felon who had been previously deported.
The inquiry determined that Jimenez was supposedly having large quantities of illegal narcotics shipped to Columbus from other parts of the U.S.
With help from the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET), Immigrations Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Columbus SWAT members, the suspect was apprehended after a vehicle and foot pursuit on September 29.
Detectives intercepted a package that was being shipped to Jimenez on October 1. A search warrant was obtained for the package and, with the help of CPD K9 Argo, law enforcement allegedly found four pounds of suspected crystal meth inside.
On Tuesday, Jimenez was formally charged by the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office with dealing in meth. He remains incarcerated in the Bartholomew County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing and authorities say additional arrests are possible.
