FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received information Thursday morning that one of its male correctional officers, a Jennings County resident, was allegedly engaged in a relationship with a female inmate.
An internal investigation began and authorities obtained a statement from the inmate. Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess requested that the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office handle any potential criminal investigation and speak with the correctional officer.
On Thursday afternoon, Zachariah Johnson, 28, of North Vernon, was questioned. After the interview, the suspect was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct, official misconduct, and trafficking with an inmate.
Johnson is no longer employed with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
