COLUMBUS, Ind. – A shoplifting suspect was arrested after he led the Columbus Police Department (CPD) on a vehicle pursuit Sunday afternoon.
Officers went to the eastside Walmart, at 735 Whitfield Drive, at around 5:15 p.m., in regards to a shoplifting suspect leaving the store parking lot. Moments later, police observed him in a vehicle on 10th Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, Malcom Gilliland, 36, of Columbus, reportedly did not pull over and sped away.
CPD chased him until he finally stopped in the 3800 block of Colonial Drive, exited the car, and fled on foot. He was apprehended by officers soon thereafter. The alleged stolen items were recovered and returned to the store.
Gilliland was taken to Bartholomew County Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot, and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
