COLUMBUS, Ind. – A fire that started in a trash can next to the CVS on Jonathan Moore Pike was the reason that the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was summoned to the business on Wednesday at around 3:20 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they reportedly found flames racing up the exterior of the building. Store employees and customers had already been evacuated. The flames were extinguished quickly.
CFD accessed the rooftop of the building to confirm that no fire had extended through the building’s parapet wall. Damages to the building were contained to the exterior.
CVS management told firefighters that they were alerted to the fire by a customer who saw the flames from the parking lot. Employees of the store attempted to extinguish the blaze with dry chemical fire extinguishers prior to the arrival of firefighters.
Officials estimated that damages could range from $5,000 to $10,000. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
