COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a residential fire Wednesday evening, at 397 Wint Lane, in the Stonegate Apartments complex.
As firefighters were on their way to the residence at about 6:30 p.m., they learned that a lawn chair was burning on a third-story balcony and that flames were building up the walls and approaching the ceiling. When CFD arrived, flames were visible from the street level.
Police arrived at around the same time and began notifying tenants on all three floors of the fire.
After crews were able to extinguish the blaze, they reported minor charring to the roof decking but were confident the fire was confined directly above the balcony without extending to the attic space.
The cause is still under investigation. There were no injuries and a damage estimate was not given.
