COLUMBUS, Ind. – Members of the local Intelligence-Led Policing Unit (ILPU) received information on Tuesday indicating that fentanyl was possibly being brought into Columbus from another community. ILPU is a combined unit with officers from the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
After confirming the information, sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on North U.S. 31 and Bear Lane. ILPU questioned and searched the occupants of the vehicle and suspected fentanyl was allegedly located on a passenger, Charles Russell, 25, of Indianapolis.
Russell is facing preliminary charges of dealing in a narcotic drug and possession of a narcotic drug.
