NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office arrested William R. Sherman, 50, of North Vernon, on Wednesday for failing to register as a sexual offender.
Convicted sex or violent offenders are required to register with the county they reside in, plus any county in which they work, go to school, or own real estate. One of the conditions is to maintain a valid state-issued identification card with their current address and physical features.
Sherman came to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office for the annual registration process and it was discovered that his state-issued identification card listed an incorrect address that had not been accurate for about one year.
He was arrested for failure to register as a sexual offender and remanded to the Jennings County Jail.
