COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sheriff Matt Myers honored Lt. Thomas Allen (T.A.) Smith on Tuesday and presented to him a certificate of recognition for 40 years of service to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the citizens of the county.
The sheriff stated, “T.A. comes into work with his same presence that I remember when I was 13-years-old. He is an excellent example to the other members of our BCSO team. Forty years and seven sheriffs later, T. A. still cares about our agency and about people.”
Smith is among the 1% of the nation’s law enforcement officers who are National FBI Academy graduates.
Lt. Smith said, “I have been around since 1982 and I have seen our sheriff’s office change from what I would refer to as “Mayberry RFD” to what we have today. Through the years, we have realized that BCSO is no longer a small community’s sheriff’s department. I look forward to continuing to serve this agency and the citizens of Bartholomew County.”
