COLUMBUS, Ind. – The 2022 State of the City Address was delivered remotely Tuesday evening by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop. It is still accessible on the city’s website.
The mayor focused on three general topics: paradigm shifts to remote work and to electric vehicles, projects currently underway, and the role of the Columbus Police Department in fostering quality of life.
With regard to the projects in progress, he highlighted the 1821 Trail, the urban grocery and apartment component of downtown revitalization, and the repurposing of the former Fair Oaks Mall as NexusPark, a joint venture of the city, parks department, and Columbus Regional Health.
He mentioned READI, the acronym for Indiana’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, which has already awarded the Bartholomew-Jackson-Jennings region $30 million.
Mayor Lienhoop then cited specific percentage declines in theft, burglary, and vandalism due to the vigilance of the Columbus Police Department.
