TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. – The German Township Volunteer Fire Department (GTVFD) was dispatched Friday to a structure fire in Heritage Heights, near Taylorsville. Firefighters arrived to find damage to the side of the house from a fire.
The occupants smelled smoke and could not find the source inside the home. They checked outside and found fire racing up the side of the house. The residents called 9-1-1 while also starting to put water on the fire.
When GTVFD arrived, the small blaze had already been put out by the occupants. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no hotspots left in the wall.
The Bartholomew County Fire Inspector determined that an outside electrical receptacle had failed. It caused enough heat to ignite vinyl siding adjacent to the exterior junction box, resulting in the fire.
