COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Council met Tuesday evening and voted to grant tax abatements, in each case 10 years for real property and five years for personal property, to two companies interested in expanding their activities in the county.
Tsume America, LLC, a maker of industrial metal-sawing equipment, will use the funds for a new 18,000-square-foot facility. The company says 31 jobs at an average of $30.28 an hour will be retained, and it will add four new positions at an average hourly wage of $18.
Drug Plastic Closures, Inc. a maker of plastic bottles for the pharmaceutical, health, and beauty industries, will build a new facility, ensuring that 99 people will be retained and 36 jobs will be added.
Deliberations focused on the pursuit of the tax abatement economic-development tool rather than the TIF district tool. Columbus Area Economic Development Corporation president Jason Hester pointed out that the TIF district doesn’t lose anything if the tax abatements are granted.
