COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a storage shed fire at 625 Parkway Dr., on Tuesday, at around 8:30 a.m. and found the building fully involved in flames in the rear yard of the residence.
Firefighters encountered an adult male who told them that he was using the building as a shelter. He said that he was inside the shed when the fire occurred and he attempted to extinguish it before smoke and heat forced him to escape. He told CFD that he did not know what may have caused the fire.
Crews quickly brought the blaze under control but only a heavily charred building frame remained.
Firefighters discovered an extension cord that led from the home to the storage building and also saw what appeared to be a propane heating device within the interior of the building. The structure was approximately 30 feet from the home and did not cause damage to the residence.
The shed was a complete loss with damages estimated at $500. The cause has not been determined.
