NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) was called to the local Walmart on State Road 3 Monday night regarding a report of shoplifting. When officers arrived at around 10:30 p.m. they were told two suspects had pushed a tote full of items out of the store without scanning them.
NVPD located the suspect vehicle after it left the store and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 50 West. During the pullover, police spoke with Zackie White, 37, and Kaitlyn Grider, 25, both of Scottsburg.
Officers found the tote, along with two vacuums and other items that allegedly had not been paid for. NVPD discovered 35 bottles of various distilled liquor, valued at $1200, inside the tote. The total amount of recovered property was about $1800.
It was later learned that Kaitlyn Grider had given a false name to police when they arrested her.
The suspects were arrested and transported to the Jennings County Jail. The recovered property was returned to the store. White and Grider were both booked for theft, and Grider was given an additional charge of identity deception.
