COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and approved a Columbus Parks and Recreation Department request for the release of special taxing district bonds. The funds, in an amount not to exceed $11,500,000, are for the repurposing of the former Fair Oaks Mall property into the NexusPark campus, including the field house that will be built on the site.
There was some discussion among council members regarding the fact that another central Indiana city, Westfield, has recently been forced to sell its sports complex to address the debt incurred.
Jamie Brinegar, city director of business services, responded that the Westfield facility was run by an outside group with a different marketing plan from what is envisioned for the NexusPark field house.
