SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) is reporting that counterfeit bills in the $10 denomination are showing up around Seymour. This is slightly unusual because it is a lower currency amount and noteworthy because very few people scrutinize smaller bills. The majority of counterfeit money is $20 and above.
These are created bills and not “washed” US currency, and from a few feet away they appear genuine, says SPD. The paper is relatively similar in feel but is not as durable. The purposely weathered fake bills rip and tear easily, fail the counterfeit pen test, have borders and edges with fuzzy ink, and are missing the “TEN” internal strip.
Police say the serial number on the Seymour bills is MC 06192948 B. They believe the perpetrator is likely cranking out large quantities from a color printer. Call SPD if you see any of the phony money.
A North Vernon resident also allegedly found a counterfeit $10 bill but with a different serial number.
