BARGERSVILLE, Ind. – The Bargersville Fire Department and six other fire agencies responded to a residential blaze on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the 1400 block of County Road 700W, six miles southwest of Bargersville, in rural Johnson County, at around noon.
Heavy black smoke was visible from several miles away. The first engine arrived to find a single-story house fully involved in flames. The family on the scene confirmed a female family member was still inside. Once crews could enter the home safely, they located a deceased occupant.
The fire was controlled in about 15 minutes. One firefighter was taken to a hospital for a checkup.
The family reported that the home had working smoke alarms. The female occupant was one of three family members residing in the house. The other two were not at home.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire and cause of death. Positive Identification of the victim is pending.
The Bargersville Fire Department was assisted by the White River Township Fire, Green Township Fire, Morgantown Fire, Trafalgar Fire, Nineveh Township Fire, and Whiteland Fire Departments.
