COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is alerting residents about a phone fraud taking place in the area. Authorities say they received a call from a resident Tuesday morning inquiring about the group, the “Police and State Troopers Foundation.”
Evidently, representatives of that “group” are making phone calls and soliciting money for local law enforcement. CPD googled the supposed organization and found out that it did not exist.
Police appreciate your support of local officers but say, “do not make donations to people who ask for unsolicited donations over the phone regardless of who they say they are with, even if they claim to be raising money for law enforcement.”
CPD advises that you check out any organization unknown to you before contributing and possibly lining the pockets of phone scammers with your hard-earned money.
