LETTS, Ind. – The Letts Community Volunteer Fire Department (LCVFD) went to East County Road 1220N in Jennings County Monday afternoon after receiving a report of a man engulfed up to his neck in a grain bin.
LCVFD responded with a rescue truck, equipped with grain rescue equipment, a 75′ ladder truck, and a paramedic ambulance. Upon arrival, they found the man with grain now up to his mouth.
Fire crews went to work and installed the “Great Wall Grain Tube” around the victim, which helped remove some of the grain from around him. After 75 minutes, he was placed in a harness and assisted out of the bin.
Several emergency agencies in Jennings and Decatur County assisted with the rescue. Officials with LCVFD said it was one of the most complex operations they had ever been involved with.
