COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus woman was taken into custody for attempted murder after she supposedly discharged a firearm during a domestic disturbance last Friday evening. The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to the 4600 block of Riverside Drive and located a bullet hole in the living room wall.
The initial investigation determined that during an argument, Carmela E. Goddard, 43, allegedly pointed a gun at another person and pulled the trigger. It reportedly malfunctioned but then later discharged during a struggle over the weapon. She was arrested and escorted to Bartholomew County Jail.
When the investigation was completed, the suspect was served by CPD officers with a Bartholomew County arrest warrant on Thursday, March 31.
Goddard was charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness, and intimidation. She is currently incarcerated on a $1.5 million bond.
