SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. – If you believe in science, it is likely we have an answer as to what caused the loud booming sound heard in Columbus, Bloomington, and across south-central Indiana on Wednesday.
The American Meteor Society (AMS) and Purdue University scientists are both attributing it to a meteor explosion that typically happens when a fireball meteor enters the earth’s atmosphere.
The big boom was recorded on seismic scales at Indiana University on Wednesday at 12:44 p.m. If you saw a meteor that afternoon or have pictures, audio, or video of the event, go to the AMS Facebook page or click here.
