COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) took a local man into custody on a number of charges on Friday evening, including Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated after he fled the scene of an accident with his one-year-old child in the vehicle.
Pablo A. Calderon Lasaro, 20, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, child neglect, leaving the scene of an accident, and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
When officers made contact they noted that Lasaro’s speech seemed slurred, his breath smelled of alcohol, and the child he was holding had sustained minor injuries.
Lasaro allegedly failed a number of sobriety tests and was taken to Columbus Regional Health for a blood alcohol test. Upon hospital discharge, CPD transported the suspect to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged operating a vehicle while intoxicated, child neglect, leaving the scene of an accident, and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
