GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, and the White River Fire Department responded Tuesday to State Road 37/I-69, south Smith Valley Road, after a report of an accident involving five vehicles and a semi-tractor trailer at around 7:10 a.m.
Sheriff Duane Burgess said three victims were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital, and one to St. Francis Hospital. The injuries were non-life-threatening.
The initial investigation indicates that Daniel R. Graham, of Petersburg, the driver of the semi, was northbound on S.R. 37/I-69. Vehicles were slowed or stopped at the traffic light at Smith Valley Road. Graham was distracted, looked up, and could not stop, striking several cars from behind.
The White River Fire Department had to free occupants from the vehicles. As a result of the crash, State Road 37/I-69, at State Road 144, was closed for approximately six hours for clean up.
