SEYMOUR, Ind. – Indiana State Police (ISP) were called Friday, just before 8 a.m., to a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Jennings County man.
The initial ISP investigation indicated that a car, driven by Daniel L. Sallee, age 63, of Elizabethtown, was southbound on County Road 1000E, near County Road 250N, two miles south of Seymour. Evidence shows the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit when it approached a southbound Seymour Community Schools bus that was stopped to pick up students. The warning lights on the bus were activated and the stop arm was extended.
Sallee braked and took evasive action to avoid striking the bus as his car left the road before overturning. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
The school bus was not involved in the crash. Neither the bus driver nor the students were injured.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash although toxicology results are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
