COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a teenager on several charges after he tried to evade officers who attempted to stop him for a speeding violation Friday night.
Officers observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on Goeller Boulevard at around 11:15 p.m. When they attempted to stop the driver, they said he refused to pull over. Jesse T. Williams, 18, of Columbus, supposedly ran several stop signs, crossed left of center, and turned his vehicle’s headlights off in an effort to evade CPD during the pursuit which reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The suspect eventually stopped in the parking lot at Southside Elementary School and was handcuffed. During a vehicle search, police allegedly located two loaded handguns, marijuana, plastic baggies containing drug residue, a scale, and a large amount of currency.
Williams was taken into custody on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, and reckless driving. Although he had a handgun permit, the weapons were seized along with the drugs and currency.
