COLUMBUS – In commemoration of National Police Week, a memorial service to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty is planned in Columbus for Friday, May 20, at 9 a.m., at the Public Safety Plaza near Second and Jackson Streets.
During the 30-minute ceremony, officers will honor the 617 police officers and 21 police canines who perished in the line of duty in 2021.
This year’s event will feature area law enforcement Honor Guards, bagpipers, a “21 gun” salute, and the playing of taps. It is free and open to the public.
