HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – Two men were killed Monday night after police and Good Samaritans stopped to help a motorist who was apparently stranded.
The Palmyra Police Department responded to assist a car stopped in the roadway on State Road 135, south of Palmyra, at around 9:30 p.m. The car was driven by Justin Moore, 31, of Owensboro, Kentucky. As the officer arrived, two Good Samaritans in a pick-up truck also stopped to help. Within seconds of exiting their cars, shots were fired that killed Moore and one of the Good Samaritans, Jacob Tyler McClanahan, 24, of Corydon.
Authorities have not released how many weapons were involved, how many shots were fired, or who fired the shots. First responders attempted lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful. The officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Harrison County law enforcement requested that Indiana State Police investigate the shooting.
