EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Edinburgh Police Department (EPD) released information Thursday that it had recently worked with several Corporate Loss Prevention investigators from Indiana Premium Outlets in Edinburgh to catch shoplifters and crime organizations which led to several diverted thefts and the arrests of two females.
On May 13, police were dispatched to a possible shoplifting incident in progress at the Old Navy Store. Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little and two officers responded. The supposed shoplifters had left the store with the stolen items and were said to have driven farther down in the mall area in their car.
Little found the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop while it was still in the mall parking lot. Chantel Marks and Tyeisha Dorsey, the two occupants, were positively identified by Loss Prevention personnel as the suspects who had allegedly stolen the merchandise and used a device to remove the security sensors. Both Marks and Dorsey were taken into custody.
EPD was able to recover a trash bag full of clothing belonging to Old Navy, as well as the device to remove the sensors. Officers also located several other bags of clothing from approximately eight different stores. The total value of the recovered items has an estimated value of $2400.
Criminal charges will be reviewed by Bartholomew County Prosecutors. Marks was preliminarily charged with theft, possession of marijuana, and failure to identify. Dorsey was booked for theft.
