INDIANAPOLIS – The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in parts of Indiana during the storms that wreaked havoc across the state this weekend.
An EF-0 tornado began at around 3:40 p.m. in Brown County, with widespread straight-line winds of 80 to 90 mph, which left numerous uprooted and broken trees within a wide area along the damage path.
In Johnson County, an EF-0 with a peak wind of 84 mph briefly touched down a bit later at about 3:50 p.m. at Camp Atterbury. NWS said that a steeple at a church was blown over and several vehicles were lifted off the ground. Plywood debris from the church was found underneath the tires of the cars.
Just before 4 p.m., an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 110 mph touched down in Shelby County. The damage path was maximized in Mt. Auburn, where the width of the tornado was 100 yards.
