SEYMOUR, Ind. – While on routine patrol of Seymour Park property on Monday at 8:15 p.m., a Seymour Police Department (SPD) officer was performing a security and welfare check at the Freeman Field Recreation Area. In a remote area, the policeman observed several pieces of luggage and what appeared to be an unconscious female laying in the grass.
The officer said it was immediately apparent that the woman was undergoing symptoms of a drug overdose, exhibiting shallow breathing and a low and weak pulse. He immediately called for EMS support and administered two Narcan doses to assist the woman in breathing.
Jackson County EMS responded and administered additional Narcan medication. The woman was later treated at Schneck Medical Center, regained consciousness, recovered from the opioid overdose, and was then released from medical care.
She said she did not recall how she got to Freeman Field and that she had been recently traveling from house to house and in the company of strangers as a result of her struggles with addiction.
SPD says it was apparent the woman was “dumped” and left abandoned by whoever drove her to the secluded location. A review of cameras in the area shows a white male in a black cutoff shirt driving a red hatchback passenger car to the area where the woman was later found. It was also noted that no calls for distress, calls to emergency services, or calls for assistance were placed for her.
The investigation is ongoing with video footage still in review. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 812-522-1234 and reference case 22-S05899.
