COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Emergency Management (BCEM) director Shannon Cooke says an Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for south-central Indiana through Wednesday at 9 p.m.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 degrees are expected on Wednesday. Extreme heat and humidity significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those individuals working or participating in outdoor activities.
Residents are reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
BCEM says that heat stroke is an emergency. Call 9-1-1.
