SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. – The National Weather Service (NWS) says a Heat Advisory is in effect on Tuesday, from 1 to 9 p.m., for most of central and southern Indiana. It includes Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Brown, Shelby, and Decatur Counties.
Heat index values of up to 107 degrees are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. The extent of the dangerous heat remains uncertain due to storms’ potential cloud cover.
NWS advises you to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside and reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
