NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Fire Department (NVFD) was dispatched to a residential fire just before 6 p.m. on Sunday. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire coming through the roof of the house. One occupant was home when the fire started and was able to evacuate.
An offensive attack was initiated, however, due to deteriorating roof conditions all firefighters were pulled out, and a defensive attack began. Crews were able to get the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Three NVFD firefighters received minor injuries while fighting the blaze. Two fell through the bedroom floor and the third received a laceration to the hand.
No damage estimate was given and the fire is still under investigation at this time.
