FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is holding a public hearing for a proposed corridor improvement project along U.S. 31 in Franklin on Monday, August 1, at the Franklin Community Middle School Auditorium, 998 Grizzly Cub Drive.
The public can learn more about the plan, view displays, and speak with the design team. The $41.9 million project proposes reduced conflict intersections along U.S. 31, including restricted crossing U-turns and median U-turns at several intersections.
A Continuous Green-T Intersection is planned at U.S. 31 and S. Main Street, at which traffic from S. Main Street and northbound U.S. 31 would have a signal, while southbound U.S. 31 traffic flows freely. Find more information about this type of intersection here. A bridge replacement and upgraded pedestrian facilities are also part of the design.
The project aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, improve non-motorized connectivity, and increase safety. Construction would be completed in phases with an estimated start in Spring 2023.
Doors for the hearing open at 6 p.m. to allow the public time to view displays and interact with project personnel before the meeting. A formal presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Project information is also posted on the INDOT Seymour District webpage and can be viewed at any time.
