BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY — A Muncie man has been officially charged after allegedly driving under the influence during a New Year’s Day crash that led to the death of one woman and injured several others.
Marcus Abram, 26, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a previous conviction.
On January 1, 2022, at 1:30 a.m., the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a personal injury vehicle accident near the 59.5-mile marker on northbound I-65. Officers located multiple victims, including a 40-year-old female who was deceased.
BCSO said Abram admitted to drinking earlier that night but refused to take a test, so deputies obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. Abram was not arrested the night of the incident. Blood results later showed Abram to be three times over the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Members of the Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team concluded that Abram was traveling over 100 mph prior to striking a vehicle that was pulled over in the median. After charges were filed on July 11, a warrant was issued for Abram’s arrest.
On July 15, the Intelligence Lead Policing Unit contacted the Noblesville Police Department for help in locating him. Although they were unable to find him, they did make contact with family members. Abram turned himself in at the Bartholomew County Jail that evening. He has since bonded out.
