COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recently updated Bartholomew County’s COVID-19 viral spread to High, which places the county as “Red” in the CDC’s rating system. The CDC designation is determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.
The designation comes on the heels of the latest Columbus/Bartholomew County COVID-19 Community Task Force report, which showed an increase in cases and hospitalizations.
Based on weekly data collected on July 19, there was an average of 25 new positive cases per day, up from 20 the previous week. Columbus Regional Health’s COVID hospitalizations were at a daily average of 10.4 patients, compared to 10 the previous week.
As a result of this designation, the COVID-19 Community Task Force urges all County residents to use masks when indoors, stay up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters, and, if showing symptoms of COVID-19, get tested.
