COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Bartholomew County man was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after he led the Columbus Police Department (CPD) on a chase.
Melvin Foree was charged with auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, and resisting law enforcement on foot.
CPD went to 7th Street and Werner Avenue at 1:30 p.m. for a theft investigation. While there, officers noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. They tried to stop the car, driven by Foree, but he refused to pull over.
Police pursued the car as it disregarded the traffic signal at 10th Street and Central Avenue. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, struck a curb near 10th Street and McClure Road, and then fled from the vehicle on foot. Foree was apprehended in the 900 block of McClure Road.
