COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested Friday evening after officers received a report that he discharged a gun during a large fight involving several juveniles. John Steven Koop, 33, of Clifford, was taken into custody.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to the 400 block of Pence Street at around 7 p.m. in regards to the fight. When officers arrived, they observed several people in the street near Pence Park.
CPD was told that the suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired it once in the air. The suspect was then reportedly tackled by people who were at the scene. The handgun was secured in a nearby residence.
Koop was transported to Bartholomew County Jail and booked for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
