FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Public Library’s first-ever Read to Me Jamboree will gather children’s authors and entertainers to promote early childhood literacy. The event for preschoolers and early elementary-aged students is set for September 17, at the Clark Pleasant Branch Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
One of the featured guests is award-winning children’s book author and illustrator Oge Mora who will lead activities and sign books. The first 50 families at her presentations receive one of her books. Other children’s authors and musicians will be on hand and kids will also have the chance to meet the PBS character Daniel Tiger.
Early literacy stations will help caregivers understand that early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they learn to read and write.
Other activities include demonstrations with Riggs, the Whiteland Police Department’s K9 officer, and another featuring a Whiteland Fire Department fire truck.
