COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two men with prior convictions were arrested for DUI in separate incidents last weekend.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) spotted a vehicle on Middle Road near Poshard Drive after receiving a report of a reckless driver at around 10:30 p.m. The driver, Jacob M. Crays, 26, of Cicero, supposedly had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and an empty wine box in the car, according to CPD spokesman Lt. Matt Harris.
Crays allegedly failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was later transported to Columbus Regional Health (CRH) for a blood draw. He was then taken into custody on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (prior conviction).
A CPD officer saw a pickup truck ignore the traffic signal while traveling at a high rate of speed at 25th Street and US 31 on Sunday at 1:15 a.m. The driver, Trent F. Barthel, 40, of Buffalo, Minnesota, was stopped near Eastbrook Plaza. This suspect also supposedly failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to CRH for a blood draw. Police allegedly found pot and drug-related items inside his truck.
Barthel was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (prior conviction), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
