GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Greenwood Police Department and FBI held a joint media conference Wednesday and said that the motive in the Greenwood Park Mall shooting last summer remained unclear. They also said the shooter had an apparent fascination with the German Reich.
Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said a search of shooter Jonathan Sapirman’s internet accounts showed he had previously discussed mass shootings on social media. An ex-girlfriend told investigators she wasn’t surprised when she heard what Sapirman did, saying he was unhappy and had a love of Nazi Germany, guns, and drugs.
Sapirman entered the Greenwood Park Mall food court on July 17, shooting and killing three people — Victor Gomez, 30, Pedro Pineda, 56, and his wife, Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 37 — before he was killed by 22-year-old armed bystander Elisjsha Dicken.
