COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: A family of four is displaced after a Christmas morning fire in Columbus. Capt. Mike Wilson said the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called to 4678 Bayview Dr., just after 4 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the residence. First responders were told the family of four had escaped and were waiting in a nearby house. The family was assessed for smoke inhalation but declined transport to the hospital, according to CFD.
Operating in frigid temperatures, firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 45 minutes. Damage to the home was extensive and the cause is still under investigation.
Crews searched the home and retrieved several items immediately after the fire, even returning a few hours later in hopes of locating additional articles for the family. The expelled family members told firefighters that they will be staying at a relative’s home.
