COLUMBUS, Ind. – Former Sheriff Matt Myers worked his last day at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) on Friday. He concluded his two terms as sheriff on January 1 but stayed on with the department for an additional seven weeks.
A statement released by BCSO read, “In the eight years he was the sheriff he transformed the sheriff’s office and had an enormous impact on the community. We would like to thank him for his service and wish him luck in whatever the future may hold.”
Current Sheriff Chris Lane said, “It was an honor and privilege to have been Matt’s chief deputy during his eight years. Our team accomplished wonderful things for Bartholomew County that continue to make a difference on a daily basis.”
On November 9, 2022, Myers announced his intention to run as a Republican candidate for Mayor of Columbus in the 2023 primary. Then, on January 17 of this year, he reversed that decision saying, “After serving more than 30 years in the public sector, I have concluded that my heart’s desire is to bring my public service career to an end and to seek new opportunities within the private sector.”
