COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Bartholomew County man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a three-vehicle accident on Sunday night.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to the crash in the 4000 block of 31st Street at around 8:20 p.m. It was reported to officers that one of the drivers, later identified as Sheldon Beck, 62, of Columbus was traveling east on 31st Street when his vehicle allegedly rear-ended another car. Beck then supposedly put his car in reverse and backed into another vehicle, according to police.
When CPD spoke with Beck, they noted that his speech was slurred, according to law enforcement. Police say Beck then became uncooperative with officers while they were administering field sobriety tests, and refused to submit to a blood draw when he was taken into custody.
A search warrant was later obtained for a blood draw at Columbus Regional Health (CRH) and Beck was placed under arrest, transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Level 6 Felony.
