COLUMBUS, Ind. – An apparent lightning strike caused a fire in a storage building on the north side of town Tuesday morning. The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called to 3203 Sycamore Dr., just after 9 a.m.
Firefighters arrived and found light smoke coming from a 250-square-foot building located in the backyard of the residence, per CFD’s Capt. Mike Wilson. Crews directed water through the building’s soffit, and when they were able to get inside, there were no active flames remaining.
CFD then cooled burnt materials within the building with a water stream before ventilating any remaining smoke left inside the structure.
The storage building was about 50 feet from the home, and firefighters ultimately determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.
