WHITELAND, Ind. — UPDATE: The victim in the I-65 truck/pedestrian crash in Whiteland on Thursday has been identified as David Callahan, 39, of Franklin.
According to the accident report, the driver of a Ryder Truck rental was going north on I-65 when Callahan walked out in front of him. The driver stated he was unable to avoid the pedestrian, striking him.
Witnesses told law enforcement that Callahan exited a vehicle he was in after it came to a stop and went around to the rear of the car into the travel lanes and was hit by the truck. Law enforcement listed the primary cause as pedestrian action.
Original: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) said there was a fatality accident, just before noon on Thursday, on northbound I-65, at the 96-mile marker in Whiteland. A pedestrian was struck and killed, per Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess.
JCSO received the call at 11:54 a.m.
There will be lane restrictions for northbound I-65 as the accident is being investigated, according to authorities. This post will be updated once more information becomes available.
