COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a jury duty scam taking place. Sheriff Chris Lane says the department has gotten several calls recently from residents reporting the activity.
If you receive a call from someone saying that you “missed jury duty and therefore you owe money to the county and there is a warrant for your arrest,” it is bogus. Report these fraud calls to the sheriff’s office.
Do not transfer money in any form to these callers. Most likely the scammers will attempt to get you to provide them with gift card numbers over the phone.
