COLUMBUS, Ind. – Juneteenth will be celebrated this Saturday, June 17, with an all-day party from late morning to early evening, presented by the Columbus Chapter of the NAACP. Juneteenth Jubilee: A Celebration of Education is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The day will be filled with music, food, dancing, and learning experiences.
It kicks off with an opening ceremony at noon at Fourth and Franklin streets that includes a proclamation by Mayor Jim Lienhoop, a “Lift Every Voice and Sing” melody sung by the Columbus Community Choir, and a Juneteenth re-enactment by Spotify artist Yoruba Kikiloma-Mason from Louisville. The “One Drop” art exhibit will return to the Columbus Visitors Center, and a DJ will provide music.
The Bartholomew County Public Library will host three different “story times” and the Kids Zone, featuring inflatables and snow cones on the Library Plaza. The health corner will have information about diabetes and dads will be honored on Father’s Day weekend.
The City of Columbus reminds residents that because of Juneteenth Jubilee, some streets will be closed with no parking from dawn to dusk:
- 4th Street from Washington Street to Franklin Street
- Franklin Street from 4th Street to 5th Street
- 5th Street from Franklin Street to Lafayette Street
