COLUMBUS, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Force Construction Company is implementing nightly lane and ramp closures starting Tuesday night at the I-65/State Road 46 interchange in Columbus to complete the installation of supplemental support hangers on the I-65 bridge. Closures are scheduled to occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Friday, July 14, weather permitting.
Beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, the left lane of I-65 northbound and southbound will be closed, as well as the left-turn lanes on S.R. 46 at I-65. All entrance and exit ramps will also be closed at the I-65/S.R. 46 interchange (Exit 68) while work is in progress. All lanes and ramps will be opened by 6 a.m. the following day.
On Wednesday, July 12, the closures begin at 4 p.m. so inspection work can occur during daylight.
On Thursday, July 13, rolling slow-downs and traffic stoppages will occur in addition to lane and ramp closures on I-65 and S.R. 46. On I-65, northbound and southbound traffic will be slowed through the work zone for periods of up to 20 minutes as work progresses. On S.R. 46, both eastbound and westbound traffic will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at a time.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes as heavy congestion and delays are expected.
This work is being completed to provide additional support to the I-65 bridge structure over S.R. 46. Work is anticipated to be finished in late July. The temporary structures under the bridge will be removed and traffic will return to its original configuration at that time.
