WHITELAND, Ind. – A Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation (CPCSC) elementary-aged student was detained Wednesday morning for allegedly having a gun in their backpack.
A student reported that another student had a gun in their backpack as the bus headed to Break-O-Day Elementary School at 8:45 a.m., per the school district. The bus driver immediately took the gun from the student and Clark-Pleasant police responded to the scene. All students were deemed safe and accounted for and the suspect student was detained for questioning.
CPCSC released this statement on the incident:
“We want to thank our staff and students for following the safety protocols. We are also grateful for the assistance of our police department to address this situation quickly. Thanks to our bus driver who took immediate appropriate action to confiscate the weapon.
We take this very seriously and will do everything possible to assure the safety of our students and staff.”
